The award of the Suitcase Photography Trophy for Best Travel Photograph shall be made by the Adelaide Camera Club in one of two ways. Either:
Via a Special Competition held on travel photography, or
Via selection from the entries for the Annual competition.
There shall only be a single winning image awarded the trophy in a given year.
All submitted images must have been taken by the submitter. There is no time limit on when the image was taken.
An independent person or persons shall judge the entries and determine the winning entry. Any judge should be a recognised judge for photography competitions, ideally have travelled a reasonable amount and be skilled at judging in the genre.
The definition of a travel photo is as per the Photographic Society of America:
“A travel photo is one that captures the feeling of the time and place, portrays a land, its people, or a culture in its natural state, and has no geographical limitations.”
The image must evoke a feeling of being there. A travel photo is not a photograph taken while travelling. If I (Derek Rogers) look at my own photos some make me relive the experience, these are true travel photos. Other photos do not evoke this feeling and those are photos taken while travelling. When looking at photos taken by others they should evoke in the viewer a feeling of being there.
Photos taken within the city limits of Adelaide, the suburbs of Adelaide and nearby towns (within 2 hours drive) are excluded.
Ultra close ups which lose their identity, studio model shots, clearly posed shots, and images with anything other than brightness, contrast, sharpness or simple filter (sepia, black and white, warming, cooling, polarising) manipulation are not acceptable.
An image that ‘could be anywhere’ is not acceptable.
