Salvador is the capital of Bahia, the largest state in Northern Brazil and home to Afro-Brazilian culture. The old town of Pelourinho is heritage listed and features many churches along with a more modern Art Deco Elevador Lacerda connecting the Upper City to the Lower City. However a lot of similar gems to Pelourinho exist in the smaller towns that surround the Bay including Cachoeira and São Félix.
Two days in Salvador exploring the UNESCO world heritage site, Pelourinho, the first day and then the next day, via Santo Amaro to the twin towns of Cachoeira and Sao Felix on the other side of the Bay.
